Fire Blankets
One way of containing and putting out a small fire is with the use of the fire blanket. When dousing a fire with water does more bad than good, it would be time to whip out the handy blanket. A fire blanket it very much different from your regular blanket. This blanket can withstand high heat and is made with materials that let little air in or out of the smothered area.
Before wool blankets served the purpose of smothering fires. Today they are treated with fire retardant and continuously tested. Patents for several materials termed as fire blankets stress publics consciousness in home fire safety. Heat resistant and high smothering capability products like Kevlar blend blanket, the aramid fiber and treated wool are cloth or a derived from it. Out in the market though comes fiber glass fiber, it doesn't need heat-retardant doses and is purposely used in case of fire.
Most fire blankets are enclosed in an emergency door that keeps it in place (don't use it for sleeping!). Do not hesitate to use this form of fire safety device, better to have a fire blanket have singes than an uncontrollable fire.
